Kids Dance Group Shevitsa
Our mission is to create an environment where anyone who enjoys Bulgarian folklore music and dance can join, have fun dancing, and feel part of our big family. We want to preserve the rich Bulgarian culture and traditions, introduce it to our children, and never forget where our roots are. This common passion not only help us unite the Bulgarian community in Twin Cities, but also anyone with special interests in Bulgarian culture and traditions.
As part of the folk heritage, the Bulgarian dances have always held an important place in people’s life – with persistence and strong vitality, handed down from generation to generation, changed more or less but still managing to preserve them through the ages. Thanks to Bulgarian folk dances we will be able to preserve folklore and keep the traditions alive.
In addition to our adults dance classes, our club teaches children from Bulgarian descent, the magic of Bulgarian folklore dance. Kids Dance group “Shevitza” was formed from the Bulgarian School of Minnesota “Saints Cyril and Methodius” in September 2009, and has been attracting new students each year. The two groups have been exposed to different dance styles, techniques, and rhythms of individual ethnographic regions of Bulgaria. They’ve had numerous performances and participation in festivals, dance events, and holiday celebrations.
Our classes are open to the public and designed to present the richness and diversity of Bulgarian folklore dance and music. Anyone who likes the Bulgarian folklore or wants to get a feel of it is welcome to become a part of our family.
